Revision or Redo Weight Loss Surgery

The weight loss surgery where has a lot of benefits, it has its risks as well. For example, in the gastric band surgery, there is a band that is tied on the upper part of the stomach and that band forms a pouch, which restricts the amount of food to pass into the stomach. This procedure works well as long as the band is in place.

If the band slips or loses its place, then that causes increased amount of food to trickle down into the stomach and thus hinders the weight loss process. It also causes the feelings of nausea and vomiting as well. When you are feeling nauseated and have an urge to eat more, then at that time you should consult your surgeon.

If you had a Gastric Band, then the option presented to you at the time of the visit would be to either get your band corrected, or to go through a Gastric Bypass procedure, or there is another option of duodenal switch or biliopancreatic diversion.

The decision will be taken depending on your current situation. Again, multidisciplinary consultations would be required to reach a final decision. If in any case, you are not satisfied with the weight loss results, then you can always opt to get the Gastric Band reversed.

But if you want to go ahead with the Gastric Bypass, then it must be clear that Gastric Bypass involves stomach removal and this is a non-reversible procedure. Therefore you must weigh in every option before decide on what you need to do. You can always consult with your family physician along with your surgeon or have a joint consultation so as to look into every possible option that you can avail.
